Buffalo
Buffalo grass is indigenous to sub tropical areas. It is a coarse, hardy perennial, which creeps by stolons only, to form a dense, bright green sward. Buffalo grass flowers from October to May.
Inflorescence: Spike-like, compact and cylindrical, straight at first, curving as it matures. Leaves are a combination of bright and light green, often tinged with purple. The central axis is thick, swollen, flat on one side and deeply hollowed out on the other. Each cavity usually containing 1 or 2 spikelets.
Leaf blade: Firm, expanded and keeled, folding readily as it dries. It is almost oblong and rounded at the base as well as apex, where it is shallowly notched, glabrous and smooth on the surface.
Leaf sheath: Strongly flattened, folded and often grouped in a fan-shaped arrangement.
