Storage and Maintenance of trays
On receipt of the bundles, they should be unpacked and laid flat in a well-lit, shady area. Direct sunlight will dry out trays very quickly. Correct irrigation of the trays is vital and is best achieved through saturation of the root zone by light steady watering for a sustained period. This ensures that water reaches the entire plug and therefore is preferable to a quick flooding with a hosepipe. An alternative would be to float the trays on a pond or reservoir and the plug would become saturated from the bottom by capillary action.
If planting is delayed and excessive top growth occurs, then the grass can be cut back while still in the trays.
About one week before planting, the trays should be irrigated with a nitrogen booster fertilizer. This will help to ensure rapid growth after planting and then coverage will be increased appreciably.
